At Encom Energy, we love hearing from customers who have transformed their homes with solar and battery storage. One of our recent projects was for David, who built a new home just outside Dromore. Having installed solar in his previous property, David already knew the benefits but with a bigger home, two electric vehicles and an air source heat pump, he needed a much larger system this time around.
His new setup now means monthly electricity costs have dropped from over £200 to just £9 (standing charges mainly).
David’s Installation – System Details
Here’s what we installed at David’s home:
🟢 38 Solar Panels – 15.39kW system
🟢 3-phase 10kW inverter
🟢 2 x 10kWh batteries
🟢 Eddi for hot water diversion
🟢 3-phase Zappi EV charger
This system now powers David’s two EVs, air source heat pump, and home appliances while keeping bills at a minimum.
Do I need a three-phase connection for solar panels at home?
Most homes in Northern Ireland are connected to a single-phase supply, which is more than enough for solar panels, battery storage and even an EV charger. However, some larger homes like David’s have a three-phase connection to support heavier loads such as multiple EVs and heat pumps.
Many companies told David his system would be complicated to install, but Encom designed a tailored solution that worked perfectly with his three-phase supply. For the majority of homeowners with single-phase, we design smart solar and storage systems that maximise generation and savings without any technical barriers.
Whether you have single-phase or three-phase, Encom Energy has the expertise to deliver the right solution.
How much can solar panels reduce my energy bills in Northern Ireland?
David’s system shows the true potential of solar. His electricity bills fell from £200 per month to just £9 per month, covering mainly standing charges.
Every home is different, but on average, our customers in Northern Ireland see annual savings of £800–£1,200 with solar and battery storage. Over time, this adds up to thousands saved, all while protecting against rising energy prices.
At Encom, we always provide a tailored savings estimate based on your property and usage before you decide to install.
What if my roof design is complex or I’m building a new home?
David’s system had to be carefully integrated into the design of his new build roof. Encom worked closely with him and his designers to ensure everything fitted seamlessly, both technically and aesthetically.
For self-build and new build homes, solar panels can be designed to blend into your roof and we coordinate with your contractors to make installation smooth. Even for existing homes with shading or unusual layouts, we use panel optimisers and custom designs to get the best performance.
Planning a new build? Talk to Encom early and we’ll help integrate solar into your plans.
What happens if I have an issue after installation?
Solar is a long-term investment and aftercare matters. David mentioned that any small questions after installation were handled quickly with just a call or email and he’s had no ongoing problems.
At Encom, our service doesn’t end on installation day. We’re here for the lifetime of your system, and our ISO-accredited, MCS-registered team ensures everything is installed to the highest standards, with full product and performance warranties.
With Encom, you get peace of mind as well as savings.
David first heard about us at the Balmoral Show, and after comparing quotes, he chose Encom because we provided a more competitive price and the expertise to handle his three-phase system without issues. His testimonial is proof that whether you’re building new, upgrading your current home, solar and battery storage can deliver huge savings.
