Encom – Powering Haldane Fisher with a 75kWp Commercial Solar Installation in Belfast

View All Articles

We have completed a new 75kWp commercial solar PV installation at Haldane Fisher’s Ladas Drive site in Belfast. The 164-panel system is now live and generating electricity, helping the business reduce the amount of power it needs to buy from the grid.

The installation is projected to save around £10,700 on electricity costs in its first year, with the investment expected to pay for itself in around three and a half years. Our commercial team completed the work while the site remained fully operational, without any downtime or disruption to day-to-day operations.

Watch the video below for a look at the installation.

What solar system was installed at Haldane Fisher?

The new solar PV system uses the roof space at Haldane Fisher’s Ladas Drive premises to generate electricity for the business.

Key project figures include:

  • Solar panels: 164
  • Total solar capacity: 75kWp
  • Expected annual generation: around 56,000 kWh
  • Expected reduction in grid electricity purchases: almost 50%
  • Projected first-year electricity savings: around £10,700
  • Expected payback period: around three and a half years

The system is now live and generating. Annual generation, savings and payback figures remain projections, rather than measured annual results.

How can commercial solar reduce electricity costs?

For businesses that use electricity during daylight hours, solar allows some of that demand to be supplied by power generated on their own roof.

Using solar electricity directly on-site reduces the amount a business needs to purchase from the grid. How much it can save depends on its electricity usage, when that electricity is needed and how closely those requirements match the system’s generation.

At Haldane Fisher, the installation is expected to reduce grid electricity purchases by almost 50%. This makes the project a useful example for other businesses considering how their roof space could help reduce running costs.

Can solar be installed while a business remains operational?

Keeping the Ladas Drive site running throughout the installation was an important requirement for Haldane Fisher. As a busy supplier to the construction industry, the business needed to continue serving customers and carrying out its normal daily work.

Our commercial team completed the installation without downtime or disruption to those operations.

For any commercial project, understanding how the premises operate is part of planning the installation. It allows the work to be organised around the needs of the site and the people using it.

What affects the payback period for commercial solar?

The projected payback for Haldane Fisher’s installation is around three and a half years.

For another business, that figure could be different. The cost of the installation, electricity prices and the amount of solar generation used directly on-site all affect how quickly the investment can pay for itself.

That is why we assess each project individually. Looking at electricity consumption alongside available roof space helps us provide a clearer picture of potential generation, savings and payback before a business decides to proceed.

How do we assess whether solar is right for your business?

We start with your electricity usage and available roof space, then look at what a solar installation could generate and how that electricity could be used within your business.

Our team will talk you through the figures, including the potential savings and expected return on investment. If the proposal makes sense for your site, we can manage the project from design through to installation and commissioning.

Thinking about commercial solar in Belfast or across Northern Ireland?

Haldane Fisher’s Ladas Drive installation shows how a commercial solar project can be delivered while a busy business continues its daily operations.
